Wood Heating FAQ

Please reach us at brian@heartlinestoves.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A wood stove is a freestanding appliance installed with proper hearth protection and chimney venting. A wood insert is designed to fit inside a compatible existing fireplace, transforming it into a more efficient source of heat. A built-in wood fireplace is installed as part of the home’s construction or renovation and framed directly into the wall. Heart Line can help determine which option works best for your home.

Square footage is a helpful starting point, but it is not the only consideration. Your home’s layout, ceiling height, insulation, number of windows and New Hampshire’s climate all affect how much heat you need. Choosing the right size is important—an appliance that is too small may struggle to keep up, while one that is too large may not burn as cleanly or efficiently. Heart Line will help you select the right model for your home and heating goals.

In many homes, yes. A properly sized wood stove can heat a large portion—or even all—of an average-sized home. Open floor plans allow heat to circulate most easily, while closed-off rooms and multiple levels may require supplemental heat or assistance moving warm air throughout the home. Your home’s insulation, layout and the location of the stove will all influence its performance.
